Is it me or is it her?

Today is a VERY tiring day... VERY TIRED!... The FITT workout was tiring enough but I had NAFA pre-test after that!!! O.o haiz... went out of school to run at the field. WENT 5 rounds!!!

Ran with Lydia but the distance between us started to increase after the 3rd round... haiz... I was totally breatheless. Finally, it was the last round. Yay! This is the scenario...

The BIG RED cross is the stopping point. The blue cross beside is Lydia. The 2 brown crosses are abbigail and Wubin the pink one is ME!

So, lydia reached the end, followed by some people. Abbigail and Wubin started running so, I ran too. I was only a 2-4 steps behind Wubin. If I wasn't wrong, my time was 17.20+ so, I reported my time to Shyan. When Shyan called Wubin here. Wubin said that she forgot hers. So Shyan went on to ask the others first. Then she went to ask Wubin again. I was quite far from them so I did not hear anything but when I saw the list. Wubin scored 17.15!!! So I was complaining to Lydia about it and she told me that she reached at 17.14. SO, THAT MEANS THAT, Wubin's score is definitely wrong!! SO, since this is only a pretest, I shall not say it anymore... 算了。。。

BB! P.s. I just realised I did not hand in my zuo wen corrections... -.-''

You can say it's embarassing..

Hmmm... Choir went boringly today.
Haiz...Went though the Joiku and Paruparong Bukid for dunno how many times but there WAS improvement! YAY!

Chi Sin needed the toilet so she handed me her TPC then me and Angelina waited for her at the foyer. Waited for like 5 mins then she appeared. Finally, she appeared, with her skirt wet. I said, "哇!你去一个厕所弄到好向去淋雨一样leh。有没搞错啊?" and handed her her TPC. Then I heard my name called by someone. So looked up and saw Juniper staring straight at me. I was like, OMG, did I do something wrong? Have I offended her in some way or other? I seriously freaked out. Then she said my Chinese very good. I was totally puzzled. HUH?? Then she started speaking Chinese. “你的华文讲得很标准leh”. That puzzled me even more so I just erm.. and smiled like an idiot. Without realising Chi Sin and Angelina sniggering. >.< ARGH..

THEN, Juniper dunno for what reason called Mei Jun here. "Mei Jun you come here and listen to her." OMG... Mei Jun came and then Juniper told me to say anything in Chinese in reply to her question. She asked, "你觉得今天的天气怎样?" Inside me, I was like -.-'' "It's raining?". I tried backing off and Chi sin helped to try pulling me off but Juniper put her hand on my shoulder and said, "I am not lettiing you leave before you say anything." So I just ermm... and mouthed "为什么" Then she told me to say "为什么"。O.o... So, I mumbled "为什么" softly. Then Juniper was like exclaiming to Mei Jun, "Did you here that? Her 为什么 so ..." Mei Jun said, "I also never hear anything.. " and turned to me and asked, "you not from China right? you are local right?" I nodded and she went off to her friend. I was like "heng ah.." Poof. What made her think that I am from China??!!

SO, Juniper asked me "you take higher chinese right?" I nodded and heaved a sigh of relief when she turned away. I scooted off with Chi Sin and Angelina quickly.

I guess that's all for today. BB!

TODAY... Good or bad??

Today, having to go home to have lunch, I could not stay back for the group discussion. So sorry Claire and Say Hwee!!

Went home with Sara and bought Ice-cream. Sara bought sweetcorn ice-cream and I bought capuchino chips ice-cream. The reason why I bought the capuchino chip is, well, I didn't know what capuchino was and decided to try and lastly realised it was COFFEE!!! YAY! You can say that I love coffee like dunno what. HAHA.

It was super hot with the sun shining like wanting to murder us so, our ice-cream started to MELT. Thus we were like licking all over the place and I realised that it had been a long time before I really laughed out loud and really mean that I am happy.

Then we went on to talk about the weather in Singapore compared to other countries. LOL then, before we knew it, we reached the station. We washed our hand in the toilet and Sara said she hated the pressing kind of tap. So we went on separate way at the platform. sad...

Waited at the platform awhile and I REALISED I LEFT MY CHOIR FILE, MY MATHS TEXTBOOKS, MY SCIENCE TEXTBOOK UNDER MY TABLE. I really freaked out and started RUNNING BACK TO SCHOOL. THE WORST thing is, IT STARTED TO RAIN!!!! AHHH!!! My umbrella is sort of detached so I used my name tag to pin it up. Clever me right? LOL.

IT WAS RAINING REALLY HEAVILY. I CAN SWEAR FOR THAT. I looked like a maniac running, clutching my umbrella tightly to prevent it from being blow off by the STRONG WIND. Moreover I was RUNNING AGAINST THE WIND. aHHH... I hate this.

I soon reached the bus stop at the foot of the hill and saw someone familiar. And that person was dripping wet without and umbrella. EMILY!!! OMG... Raindrops formed crystal like thingy on her hair and reminded me of those dramas where they have the boy and the girl meeting in the rain.. LOL. I really wanted to share my umbrella but I wanted to rush back to class to get my stuff down, so I am really sorry...

Luckily, the classroom door was still open. thank goodness!! Wangyi ask why did I come back and why I was dripping. I told her the reason and rushed to unlock my table. Wangyi said something but I couldn't really hear as my heart was racing so, I just laughed. LOL...

So I think thats all I will tell all of you. BB!!
wow such a long post....

REFLECTION

Day I -
Today, we first went to Lions Befrienders(Mei Ling) and the manager there welcomed us with a small talk and briefly told us what we were going to do on the next few days. Next, he brought us to meet the elderlys who were already there waiting for us. We introduced ourselves quickly and we started opening up the tables and lining the chairs. We then broke ourselves into small groups and sat down at a table with the elderlys to teach them origamis. We taught them alot of things, example, cranes, fish, boats, hearts, rokets and alot more. When it was time for their lunch, they did some simple excercises and we helped them to get their food according to their numberrs.
Day 2 -
Today as we were having a performance, Claire brought her pianica, Lydia brought her recorder while I brought my er hu. Although the performance went quite smoothly, the response from the elderly was not quite good as most of the songs played were not familiar to them. Only when I started playing "Tao Hua Guo Du" the elderlys started claping along and sang some lyrics that I did not understand but nevertheless, seeing the smiles on their faces satisfied me.
Day 3 -
Today, we set up the tables and chairs, lined the tables with newspapers, distributed the brushes, rice paper and chinese ink to do caligraphy. The number of the elderlys present decresed, probably because some of them did not know how to read and write. However, those who came down had fun and recalled the times when they wrote when they were young and told us stories and of course we lent a listening ear. We felt very embarrassed as some of the elderlys could write nicer than us when we were supposed to be the one teaching them to write.
Day 4 -
Today, we had to use the pavillion for the bowling game so Mr Yip appointed me and Claire to sweep up the place. It was just then I realised how dirty the pavillion was, filled with fallen leaves, some cigarrette buds and a lot of big ants! After that the others helped with the lining of chairs and the sticking of the "bowling area" as well as the arranging of bowling pins and plastic balls. Then Mr Yip told Claire, Lydia and me to take the photos while the game goes on. After that, the "judges" collated the points each person had and gave out the prizes we brought with us that day. Then the manager briefed us on communication between the elderlys as well as the interview questions we had to ask them the next day.
Day 5 -
Today, we gathered at the pavillion and then went to the houses linked the Lions Befrienders for the interview. First we interviewed and old lady. As her 5 year old grandchild was still asleep, we had to lower our volume during the interview. It was sucessful. Next, we went to the next house and saw the gate was splashed with blue paint before. I was afraid and wondered how was the owner like. We rang the bell but no one answered. Then we knocked a couple of times on the door but still no one answered. Then really wanted to press the bell again but Angelina stopepd me. Then finally, a wheelchair-bound old lady opened the door. She told us a lot of things including the paint-splashed door. It turned out that the loansharks poured wrongly. I immediately felt pity for her. She is single and thus did not have anyone to talk to. So while we talked to her, she poured all the things she had kept within herself for so long. We of course listened but we rushed at the end for the interview so we could complete the questionaire and we did. We then bid goodbye and moved on to the next elderly. It turned out that she was the one at the same table with me on the first day when we did the origami. The interview went very smoothly as she did not talk much about herself nor her family members, maybe because of her decesed husband and that she did not want to talk about her life. So we finished all the interview and went back to the centre. Then we had buffet, although I only got a bun for myself. We then played pass the ball and pin the tail on the donkey. It was very fun although I was only taking photos.
Reflection-
I think that this had been a very meaningful week. I learnt a lot of things and I think it improved my moral self too. The interview helped me to understand more about the elderly and what they think and some way other helped the translation from the English to Chinese and also my courage to speak to someone I do not know much of. The response on the last day was the best as it had a lot of people participating and a lot of fun, concluded from the smiles on each and every elderly's faces. Seeing that, I felt very glad and all the planning has not been wasted. Although the performing day was quite demoralizing, I think it serves as an important lesson for all of us. After the whole programme, my whole impression of the elderlys changed. I think all elderlys should be equally treated and not left behind, confused and in living their own world. It is good to have such organization such as the Lions Befrienders to help the elderlys to be engaged and have some friends around them even if they were single or with no relatives. I think it was the most satisfying week of my life!

Today at Lion's Befrienders

hello people, its been a lng time since I posted anything. So tada here I am! Today we had a bowling game so we had to clean up the pavillion. so, due to dunno wat reason, out of so many people, Mr yip had to choose me and Claire to sweep the pavillion. haiz... saw a lot of ants, saw one red weird insect even. So I guess that was all we did today. BB!
